V-E Day

On this day I think of what my parents and extended family faced and went through during the war years. I also remember my mother saying how everything changed in her life after the Nazi’s came and broke into the local newspaper office destroyed the printing press, kidnapped the young man who was paid to sleep there. He was never seen again. The radio went silent and hundreds of reporters, educators, scientists, politicians, judges, certain religious, spiritual people and Military people were arrested or taken away and shot. This is the way it always starts when freedom is under attack. We won the war for the world last round now we have to look at history, the facts and use our common sense to see what is going on around us now. We can only see clearly through the eyes of love for our neighbor, country and the values we have held dear that made our country prosper. When I was a child our nation was respected and our ideals the hope of the world. We did not always agree with each other but created a government that worked for the interests of nation and its people. It was not perfect but we fought for better especially from the 60’s on and we did it by massive protests many peaceful and having intelligent robust conversations on all forms of media and with each other. We figured out solutions from high-school kids to the highest offices in the land. We were impassioned but for the most part discerning. For the sake of our children and the peace of the world we have to not only wake up but act quickly to save Liberty and Justice and restore the health of our nation.
